AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Waypoint Kids - After School Program

Our After School Program is the heart of Waypoint.

Since 2018, we have strived to provide a safe, enriching environment for youth, no matter whether it’s in the evening, after school, or during summer break when school is out.

Focused on academic support, recreation, socialization, and personal growth, this program combines homework help, STEM activities, arts, sports, and life-skills workshops.

Kids build friendships, stay active, and receive the extra support they need to thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Snacks, supervision, and engaging programming make this program a trusted choice for busy families.

Whether your child needs quiet study time or high-energy fun, the After School Program at Waypoint keeps them safe, supported, and growing every day.

Waypoint closely follows the Yough School District calendar, mirroring scheduled holidays, school closures, and weather-related days off.

Hours of Operation: Tue – Thur: 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm

NEW IN 2026

Waypoint’s Digital Media Lab, sponsored by Calvary Cares, brings the technology of tomorrow to the youth of today.

“Waypoint Youth and Community Center has left a lasting impact on my life. On that very first day of summer program so many years ago, I sat at the counter helping prepare lunch as a student participant, never imagining how much my role would grow over time. What began as participation in the program evolved into opportunities to serve as an intern, an employee, and now, a board member.

The journey that started that day has become an anchoring part of both my life and my identity. My experiences at the Center have strengthened my leadership skills, deepened my compassion for others, and inspired hope for my community. Today, I have the privilege of experiencing the program from the other side — encouraging students who may be sitting at that same counter, helping prepare lunch, just as I once did.”

- Azzia

“Working at Waypoint Youth & Community Center has changed my life immensely. I truly feel like I would be a completely different person if I had never started going to the center as a kid. Waypoint was a place where I felt supported, encouraged, and able to grow, and the mentors I had there made a lasting impact on me. I’m incredibly thankful that I now have the opportunity to give back and be the mentor I once had when I was a kid attending the center. Being able to make a positive difference in the lives of young people the way others did for me means so much, and I’m grateful every day to be part of the Waypoint community.”

- Brynne

“Waypoint and everyone involved have positively affected me and the communities surrounding West Newton. One of the ways it changed my life was giving me an opportunity to invest in the youth of my community just like so many people did for me. Waypoint also gave me a lot of opportunities to try new things and lead.”

- Austin

“Waypoint has meant a lot to me. I’ve made friends, gotten closer to God, and always had someone there when I needed to talk. When my grandfather died, I knew I had people at Waypoint I could talk to. They’ve helped me when I was down, with homework, and even when I was hungry. Waypoint feels like family to me.”

Career Exploration

Career Pathways After School Program

At Waypoint After School, we are passionate about helping students prepare for their futures through meaningful career development and workforce opportunities.

One day each week is dedicated to career exploration. Students often connect with guest speakers from a variety of fields, take part in hands-on activities, or go on field trips that open their eyes to real career possibilities.

When we host a guest speaker, each is asked the same five questions so our kids get a clear, consistent picture of their career:

  1.  What does a typical day in your job look like?

  2.  What skills, education, or experience are most important for someone starting in this field?

  3.  What do you enjoy most about your work?

  4.  What challenges do you face, and how do you handle them?

  5.  What advice would you give to a young person interested in this career?

Through these weekly experiences — along with our student-operated food service programs and other workforce development opportunities — students gain practical skills, confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and genuine exposure to potential career paths.

Our goal is not only to help young people dream about their futures, but to equip them with the tools, experiences, and support they need to pursue those dreams with confidence. We believe every student deserves the chance to discover their strengths, develop valuable life skills, and realize their God-given potential.
